At a young age his Mother introduced him to southern gospel music. Growing up, hearing groups like The Hinsons, Stephen knew he wanted to sing one day. At the age of 18 the Lord started dealing with his heart, reminding him of what he was called to do. Stephen has been traveling and singing for the past twelve years. His first solo C.D. was released in June of 2006. It was dedicated in the memory of his Mom, Pam Philman, who passed away in January of 2006. She was always his number one fan and it was her love for music that still inspires him today. In 2009 Stephen released his second solo album titled “Prepaid Ticket”. This Album includes five songs written by Stephen. In 2010 Stephen brought a live band onstage where they performed a broad style of music, from old classics to new original songs. Stephen just released his newest album title "Favorites". Which includes an original song performed by Kenidy and Jaxon.

Dean Banks - Bass Guitar
Dean joined SJM playing Bass Guitar in 2011—he also plays trumpet, baritone, and trombone.  A native of Dayton, Ohio, he graduated from the University of Kentucky with a Degree in Business.  Dean’s mother took him to church every time the church doors opened where he developed a love for playing and performed his 1sttrumpet solo at the age of 12.  Inspired by the bass player in a 6-piece college band (Charlie Daniels 1st Bass player), Dean self-taught himself the Bass Guitar at the age of 21.  Within 6 months he received an offer to play Bass for the Voices Triumphant who appeared on the Happy Goodman’s Arlington, Texas concert taping in 1974 and the Goodman’s syndicated show in 1975.  The group recorded 2 songs on the Happy Goodman’s Family Hour Album which received a Grammy nomination in 1975.
In the last decade, Dean has played Bass and sang Tenor for an SG Group from Georgia and played Bass at Bill Bailey’s church in Bradenton, FL.
Ministry is THE reason that he is willing to make the long drives to and from a service and “leave it all on the stage” when he plays which an excellent fit for SJM.
